Children undoubtedly hold a special place in the heart and ministry of Jesus. At Compasion, we delight in serving children in over 25 countries who live in vulnerable conditions. While there are many organisations that promote the dignity and rights of children around the globe, the story of God's creation, plan and purpose for us is the best place to seek inspiration and information about the value of children.
Here are seven beautiful bible verses that demonstrate the value and significance of children.
1. When we welcome children, we welcome Christ
And he said "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me". —Matthew 18:3-5
2. Children belong in God's kingdom
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." —Mark 10:14-15
3. Every little one matters
"See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven." —Matthew 18:10
4. Every child is crafted in God's image
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:13-14
5. Children are a picture of our own spiritual growth
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. —1 Peter 2:2-3
6. Jesus shares his treasures with children
Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. —Matthew 11:25
7. Children are a heavenly gift
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. —Psalm 127:3
